  SOROPTIMISTS OF RIO VISTA NAME ROSSI AS RUBY AWARD WINNER

At the annual Women’s Day luncheon March 6, Soroptimist of Rio Vista members honored Marcy Rossi as its 2009-10 Ruby Award winner. The Ruby Award recognizes women who promote and enrich the lives of women and girls.

Mrs. Rossi was acknowledged for her efforts in twoMarcy

 different areas. As a former Peace Corps volunteer, she became aware of the economic struggles of African women. This led to her involvement in Beads for Life, an organization which assists Ugandan women in starting bead businesses. The profits from theses businesses are re-invested in local African community developments. Mrs. Rossi hosts events in the Rio Vista area which last year raised over $2500 for the organization.

Marcy Rossi has lived in Rio Vista since 1999, and taught at D.H. White School until taking a leave of absence to raise her three children. She has remained active as a grant writer and administrator for afterschool programs in the River Delta School District, and is responsible for the creation and grant funding of Beyond the Bell, the afterschool program at D.H. White and at Riverview Middle School.

Mrs. Rossi serves as president of the D.H. White parent-teacher club, and coaches soccer and baseball. Soroptimist of Rio Vista recognized Marcy Rossi as a woman who “has the vision to better humanity and the leadership and fortitude to make a difference.”
